Warehouse IT infrastructure audit for a global confectionery manufacturer

About the Client

Our client is an international company operating in the confectionery segment. Its geographical presence spans Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. The company employs over 5,000 people worldwide.

Under the terms of the signed non-disclosure agreement, the company LWCOM cannot reveal the name of the client.

Objective

The client acquired a new warehouse and production facility in the UAE with the goal of strengthening its position in the Middle Eastern market.

The facility had previously been operated by another international company, which, prior to the sale, had completely dismantled its IT infrastructure: server equipment, switches, access points, most cable routes, and even wire labeling were removed.

The client faced an urgent need to launch warehouse operations in the shortest possible time and integrate it into the existing global IT system.

To launch the warehouse, the following tasks were required:

  • Conduct an audit of the remaining infrastructure
  • Record and document all existing equipment
  • Assess the current state of the Wi-Fi network
  • Provide recommendations for restoring the IT infrastructure

Project Features

One of the key challenges of the project was remote coordination: the client's IT Director was located in another country and could not be physically present at the site.

THE COMPANY NEEDED A RELIABLE PARTNER IN THE UAE TO HANDLE ALL ISSUES REMOTELY — THIS ROLE WAS SUCCESSFULLY FULFILLED BY THE SYSTEM INTEGRATOR LWCOM

Solution

Given the critical situation, we developed, coordinated with the client, and implemented a comprehensive audit project:

Audit of Passive and Active Network Infrastructure:

1
A team of engineers was dispatched to the site to conduct a thorough inspection of the premises
2
Remaining cable routes were identified, and surviving switches were discovered
3
The entire cabling system, which lacked labeling, was inspected, labeled, and documented with reference to connection points
4
Equipment layout and rack connection diagrams were created

Wi-Fi Infrastructure Audit:

1
A complete site survey was conducted using the Ekahau Site Survey tool across the 50,000 m² warehouse to identify active and hidden Wi-Fi access points
2
The locations of both functioning and inactive access points were determined, coverage areas and potential problem zones were identified
3
The radio survey revealed not only the client’s access points but also third-party and unidentified devices, providing a comprehensive overview of the radio environment
4
A detailed report was generated, including a coverage map and the locations of all active Wi-Fi devices

It is worth noting that throughout all project stages, communication with the client's team was prompt and accurate, conducted primarily via email, which ensured high process efficiency.

Result

As a result of the project, we delivered a comprehensive report to the client, which included:

  • Complete documentation on the state of the network infrastructure: cabling logs, an accurate inventory of available equipment, detailed layout diagrams, and labeling of all wires and active devices
  • An independent assessment of the current IT infrastructure and expert recommendations for its development and future scalability

Thanks to our prompt work, the client was able to confidently move forward with the project and proceed with the procurement of equipment needed to fully launch the new warehouse.
